Healthy Hearts
As part of our Me, You, and The Big Wide World study we have been learning about healthy eating. Brogan, from the Heart Foundation, has been working with Room 10 and teaching us about the importance of healthy eating and why eating a variety of food is important for keeping our body healthy.
We also learned that what you drink matters too. Our body does not need added sugar, and the best drinks for us is plain milk and WATER!
This photo illustrates the number of teaspoons of sugar in each drink!
The better we fuel our machines (body), the better they will work!

Speed Racer
Today Sharniqua (and RJ from Rm 12) competed in the Soapbox Derby national finals. Despite the threat of rain, it was a beautiful day and both drivers competed well. Sharniqua was clocked at 57km/h in one of her races! Woahzers!!
Both drivers qualified for the semi finals, placing in the top 10. Unfortunately they were eliminated before the final race, not quite making the top 6. We are very proud of both drivers, and the whole team, for all of the effort and skill that they have put into this event! Congratulations Soapboxers!

Auckland Rugby
Karl from Auckland Rugby has been helping us to develop our Rippa skills.
In session one, we learnt how to correctly hold the oval ball, and practiced passing to our left and right.
In session two, we practiced our attacking and defending skills and learnt the rules of Rippa.
Thank you Karl for the fun Rippa sessions.
Here is a bit of attack and defense. Sharniqua takes on Lexus, did she get past? Then Lexus takes on Sharniqua, how did he get on?

ASB Polyfest 2016
Food, friends, fun! What a great day we all had at the ASB Polyfest today. As the largest Maori and Pacific Island festival in the world, there was plenty of colour, flavour, language and dance to enjoy. We visited the sponsors stalls, watched performances and spent the day with our friends and parent helpers. Finally, returning home covered in temporary tattoos and ready for a moe!
Thank you to our AMAZING parent helpers who continually smiled and cared for us throughout the day. Nga mihi nui kia koutou; Tuane, Nyree, Michelle and Roy. Thank you for your never-ending support.

Twinkle, Twinkle
Here are this week's stars!
Tioni received his award for focus and participation. While Hebrew, who is as quiet as a mouse, received his award for being brave and choosing to present his group's ideas in front of the whole class.
Shine on boys!

Our visit to Ika
Armed with our sketching pencils and Art books, Room 10 took a quick trip to the Otara Town Centre. How amazing to see our art exhibition motivation in real life! We got a real feel of the 'scale' of the sculpture and had an up-close look at the art and carvings on the pillars. Here are a few photos from our quick trip:
