Matariki- A Time for Planting

Our little seedlings have grown too big for the crib... and will today spend their first night in their 'big bed'.

Sleep tight little ones.

It has been very exciting watching our plants grow- from seeds to seedlings.
We can't wait to see what happens next!

Otara Creek Restoration

The senior students of BMPS have been digging in and getting their hands dirty... literally.

Over the last two days, all of the senior students have travelled to Te Irirangi Reserve to participate in the Otara Creek restoration programme.

We were educated about the living creatures that can be found in the creek and the importance of having cool, clean, and highly oxygenated fresh water for them.
We then planted trees alongside the creek which will eventually provide shade for the creek and habitation for birds and insects too.

What a wonderful feeling it was to be dressing Papatuanuku with her new plants and trees.

Vaiaso o Le Gagana Samoa- Samoan Language Week

Today we closed our amazing week with dancing, singing and of course LAUGHING!
What a great week we have had embracing the Samoan Culture.

Mr Luteru came in to speak to Room 10 and 21 about what life in Samoa was like for him and even taught us how to make coconut cream from 'scratch'.

The process in action.

We are very lucky and appreciate the teachings we have had today. Fa'afetai lava!

Here are some photos and clips from our celebration assembly too:

The girls heard that the boys had put an item together and they too took up the challenge.
This is a snippet of their efforts from 3 days of practice, using their play times and lunchtimes.

Boys' Haka
These boys put this item together themselves, also practising during their lunchtimes.

Closing off by giving thanks: Bible Reading & Prayer

Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa- Fanau Sports

Today our whole school joined together for an afternoon of activities and a lot of fun. From volleyball to hula hoops to Jump Jam- it was all go! We rotated through activities with our buddy classes; with the older students taking responsibility for the care of the younger students and demonstrating leadership through their own actions.

We even had 'Katy Perry' (a.k.a Mrs Hart) make an appearance, and had the very important role of time keeper/ siren operator. The teachers looked very bright too in their lavalava and lei.

We all had a great time together as one BMPS fanau.
